Joy is the evidence of inner growth”
— Maria Montessori
There is no denying it – I love this time of year! It is a time when teachers are given a rare glimpse of the fruits of their labor. Come June, children are not the same little people as when they first entered school in August. There are so many changes. Children who were once timid now speak confidently and play freely. Reluctant readers at the start of the year now devour words effortlessly and write with ease.
Maria Montessori stressed the vital importance of observation. With the mundane day in and day out, we may miss the academic and social progress made by our students, but it’s at the end of the year where we find their transformations so evident. It brings me great joy to witness such growth. This simple joy is the reason I teach.
