The Elementary Work Plan

September 10, 2015

Elementary class

I spent some time with our Elementary class this past week and was so proud of what I saw. It wasn’t just the students, and it wasn’t just the tireless effort put out by the teachers.

It was the coming together of the two. Our elementary teachers make weekly work plans tailored to each individual. This takes careful observation, documentation and a certain sensitivity in really knowing where each child is developmentally and academically. The children have their work cycle time to complete the items on their work plan. Teachers will check and correct it as needed and the child will continue to work on that lesson until it is mastered.

This is such a beautiful concept. Children are given a true opportunity to work to their level. They are not pressured to all learn the same things at the same time. Most importantly the work they do is self-motivated and completely dependent on the amount of effort, concentration and true work they do. Talk about preparing our children for our future!
