The effectiveness of our teaching, not just academic teaching either, is completely dependent upon the relationships that we build. Contrary to my earlier thinking, it is not exclusive to the relationships we build with the children.
The relationships we build with parents allow us to partner with the most valuable and knowing individuals on the children in our care.
The relationships we build with our class teachers sets the tone for our classroom. It models appropriate interactions and communication for the children. It helps hold us accountable and pushes us to be the best possible teachers we can be.
The relationships we build with our leadership team give us important feedback, guidance and mentoring in both our professional and personal development.
The tone we have set with our staff and the relationships we have built in all dynamics of our school has created a sense of openness and direct way of communicating. At times we say and hear things we might rather not, but there is comfort in knowing we are able to address the hard issues that arise. Who likes to live a facade of fluff and false security when you can live in a reality of knowing you are reaching your true potential?
