My Montessori journey is short, but what I have gained surpasses those few years.
I was introduced to the Riverview Montessori School and the Montessori Method, in July of 2012. I was immediately drawn to the beautifully arranged classroom, with even more varied and beautiful materials. I was intrigued at children taking responsibility for their own learning, without being dependent on a teacher.
This was a novelty for me…children sitting on the floor, working on rugs; going to the shelves, taking work to those rugs and freely moving around with no timetables to dictate their movements or subjects.
I was so intrigued that I needed to know more. I decided to embark in professional Montessori Teacher Training. It has been the most rewarding experience of my working life, surpassing even my 25 years of teaching in a public high school in Jamaica (which I loved).
Being the guide in an enriched, worldly classroom, to eager and bright-eyed children does something to one’s heart. It did to mine.
I’m happy I chose to become a Montessori Teacher. I’m happy I embarked on the training, even when I felt it was overwhelming to complete the Pre-Primary and Lower Elementary Certifications back to back.
I’m happy because I can help my children soar to new heights and realize that the world is theirs to conquer, and that dreams can come true. I’m happy that I am there to share in their “a ha” moments, when they realize that they’ve “got it!”!
I am eager to continue with our children every day. Without them, I would be empty.
I love our Montessori and thank God for the fate that led me here.
