Breaking barriers… that is how I envision the legendary Maria Montessori. This pioneer of the proven Montessori Method of early learning first changed the view of women in medicine in the early 1900’s, and later originated the Education for Peace program earning her two Nobel Peace Prize nominations.
Dr. Maria Montessori’s ground-breaking and scientific observations of children led her to a revolutionary theory of children’s innate hunger for exploration and thirst for knowing. Maria turned the educational arena on its head: She established a controversial method of teaching focusing on the child’s natural discovery and interests, rather than the teacher-centric method using rote memory and testing.
With its time-tested and proven success, Montessori schools have grown to an estimated 10,000 in number across the globe. Children gain foundations of arithmetic, geometry, spelling, grammar, not to mention geography, biology, botany and a cultural appreciation. The moral foundations instilled in a Montessori classroom develop children who are compassionate, helpful and caring to others and the environment.
We thank you Maria Montessori for your work and dedication for our future. Maria Montessori’s legacy lives on through generation after generation of children who are independent, intellectually curious, innovative and empathetic. There is hope for education; There is hope for the future!
