Home & School Connection

December 14, 2015

The Montessori-home connection

Bridging the gap between home and school benefits your child, your family, and the school community. The many parent opportunities at BMS, RMS and SMS allow you to be part of the school, meet your child’s classmates and to stay informed. The recent Parent Teach-In was extremely rewarding for the children bringing new experiences to the classrooms. Community projects and school celebrations also provide opportunities for parents to be engaged. Even the weekly Art Class offers a chance to be involved, and no talent is required by the way.

Families can also provide a supportive environment at home encouraging the principles found in our classrooms: order, independence, and self-motivation. You can look for and provide opportunities for children to help out: wipe and dust tables, fold towels, sort silverware, set the table. Give your child enough time and show your confidence in him/her to be able to complete tasks (without rushing in to help). Also, don’t expect perfect results, but recognize your child’s effort instead. You can find additional ideas for ways to engage children at home on the American Montessori Society website at http://amshq.org/Family-Resources

As parents and teachers, we share the common goal of growing confident, independent children.

About the Blog

sloganWelcome to Montessori Minds, a portal into the daily life and insight of what it is to live a Montessori life. We are teachers at the Brandon, Riverview, and SouthShore Montessori Schools — more than just a premiere school for young children in the Tampa area, we are an experience that prepares these young children to live the rest of their lives as whole competent beings. Here we will share our experiences, our research and observations, and our hearts.
