Do you know what is the most valuable work your child completes in the classroom? It is not their number or alphabet pages, or even writing their name. It is the exploration of their environment: their self-paced internal drive where they thoughtfully choose and also complete their own work. The complete process includes rolling out a work rug, selecting an activity, manipulating the work, putting the work away, and then rolling the rug and returning it to the basket. This exercise builds confidence, problem solving skills and are the building blocks for life. The hands-on Montessori materials facilitate investigation, exploration and develop the children’s confidence, where they learn not to be afraid of making mistakes. The reality is that ironically at the end of the day, your child’s productivity in class can actually be gauged by their lack of papers…not vice versa!
